The Ford DLD engine is a family of compact inline-four diesel engines developed jointly by Ford of Britain and the diesel specialist PSA Group, the maker of Peugeot and Citroen. The joint venture to produce the DLD, called DV by PSA, was announced in September 1998. Half of the engines are built at the Ford of Britain plant at Dagenham in England and at the Ford plant in Chennai, India, and the other half at the PSA plant at Tremery in France. Ford sells them as Duratorq TDCi and Citroen and Peugeot sell them as HDi, while Mazda uses the Ford-made engine in the Mazda2 and Mazda 3 as the MZ-CD or CiTD. The range has the 1.4 litre DLD-414, usually without an intercooler, the 1.5 litre DLD-415 added in 2012 and derived from the 1.6, and the always intercooled 1.6 litre DLD-416. Ford later added an unrelated 1.8 litre DLD-418, a revised Ford Endura-D engine, which it counts in the DLD family by name.
