Ecotorq is a family of heavy duty diesel engines used mainly in the Ford Cargo heavy trucks, designed and built by Ford Otosan in Turkey. It is described as the first diesel engine built entirely with CAD and CAM technology in Turkey. The family is produced at the Ford Otosan truck and engine transmission plant at Inonu and, under licence from Ford Otosan, at the JMC Xiaolan engine plant in Nanchang, China. It was developed alongside the second generation Ford Cargo (H298), an in-house Ford Otosan project, and the first generation made its debut in 2003 with a displacement of 7.3 litres. It replaced the Ford Dorset and Dover series of water-cooled turbodiesels and competes in the Turkish market with Cummins B and C series engines used in BMC trucks and with Mercedes-Benz and MAN heavy duty engines. Unlike the angled Dover engines, all Ecotorq engines sit upright on the axis of the chassis, with water cooling and a 24-valve valvetrain.
