The Ford 335 engine was a family of V8 engines that Ford built from 1969 to 1982. The number came from a management decision during development to make a 335 cubic inch engine with room to grow. Production began in late 1969 with the 351 cubic inch 351C, called the Cleveland after the Ohio plant that made most of them, and later grew to a 400 cubic inch tall deck engine, a tall deck 351M and a 302 cubic inch version exclusive to Australia. These overhead valve V8s used a short skirt block longer and heavier than the small block, with canted valves taken from the 385 series. They went into mid and full size cars and light trucks, replaced the FE family, and were themselves replaced by the more compact small block.
