The 4/50 was replaced in 1953 by the Wolseley 4/44, while its six cylinder sibling the 6/80 was replaced in 1954 by the 6/90. The 4/50 had been built at the Morris Cowley factory alongside the Oxford since 1948, with an engine that was a four cylinder version of the 6/80 unit, with very few common parts such as the pistons and doors shared with the six. The 4/44 that took over was designed under the Nuffield Organization.
