The 4/44 used a 1,250 cubic centimeter XPAW engine, a version of the XPAG engine seen in the MG T type cars but detuned by having a single carburettor, giving 46 horsepower with a four speed column change gearbox. The construction was monocoque with independent front suspension by coil springs and a live rear axle. The car had upmarket trim, with a wooden dashboard, leather seats and an illuminated badge on the traditional Wolseley grille. Its model years run from 1952 to 1956.
