Renault Domaine

Automobiles

The Renault Domaine is the station wagon version of the Frégate. It was put on sale in 1956 to replace the Renault Colorale and was built at Billancourt in France and at Haren in Belgium. The Domaine had good road holding but was rather expensive, and its customers were mostly rural. In 1959 Renault launched a version with a manual gearbox and hydraulic converter, the Renault Manoir, the station wagon version of the Frégate Transfluide, with the grille of the Frégate Amiral and 12 volt electrical equipment. The Domaine never met with the success hoped for, and its production ended in 1960, so its career lasted only four years. In 1960 Renault was already thinking of replacing the Frégate with the Renault 16, which appeared in 1965.
