Vauxhall 5 HP (1903)

The Vauxhall 5 HP is an early British automobile built in 1903, the first car produced by Vauxhall, a company that had begun as a marine and pump engineering firm in the Vauxhall district of London before turning to automobile manufacture at the start of the twentieth century. Built as a simple single-cylinder car in small numbers, it marked the beginning of Vauxhall's long history as a British car manufacturer, which continued for more than a century afterward, and the model's success encouraged the company to expand automobile production and eventually relocate its car manufacturing to Luton, where Vauxhall car production was based for most of the twentieth century.
