Renault Monastella

Automobiles

The Renault Monastella, Type RY1, was a compact luxury car that Renault manufactured between late 1928 and 1933. It shared the mechanical elements and bodywork options of the Renault Monasix but had superior finish and equipment, and a plate reading carrosserie STELLA stressed the manufacturer's wish to set the two models apart. The 8CV Monastella was released for 1929 at the October 1928 motor show with a small six-cylinder engine of 1476 cc. Its radiator at first sat behind the engine, but by the October 1929 show all Renaults had a conventional front grille, and in 1931 a more powerful 33HP engine arrived with a new grille. Production ceased in 1933 and the Renault Primastella replaced the car.
