Renault Monasix

Automobiles

The Renault Monasix, also known as the Type RY, was a compact car, or small family car, that Renault manufactured between 1927 and 1932. It was considered a commercial failure mainly because its engine was too small for the car's length and weight, which often caused problems keeping it under control; at 1,476 cc and an 8CV tax rating it was one of the smallest six-cylinder engines then available. From 1928 the main Paris taxi company, the Compagnie Générale des voitures à Paris, bought a large number and painted them in the green of the city's buses, and 5,000 taxi versions were made, the last of which were used in Paris until 1962. The Monasix was raced in the Morocco Rally in 1928, the Monastella was an upgraded version with better trim, and the Renault Monaquatre replaced it in 1932.
