The Plymouth Roadking was the low-priced line of the Plymouth range in the 1938 to 1940 model years, built by Chrysler under the Plymouth name. It replaced the Business, which was renamed in the middle of the 1938 model year because the old name recalled a commercial vehicle, and it gained triangular front ventilation windows like the Deluxe. A higher-compression engine of 86 brake horsepower (63 kilowatts) was optional. The Model P7 of 1939 was a long-overdue redesign with an alligator hood, square headlamps set into the fenders and a split V-shaped windscreen, with 102,368 built in that year, while the P9 of 1940 had squarer fenders and 106,738 built. The cheap line was dropped without a successor in August 1940, leaving only the Deluxe.
