Packard Light Eight

Automobiles

The Packard Light Eight, officially the Ninth Series Model 900, was an entry-level Packard sold only in the 1932 model year. It was introduced in January 1932 together with the new V-12 to add a lower-priced segment during the Depression, and it carried the same 319 cubic inch, 110 horsepower flathead straight eight as the Standard Eight in a lighter car on a 127.75 inch wheelbase. A four-door sedan cost 1,750 dollars against 2,485 for the Standard Eight sedan, and Packard sold 6,785 of them in four body styles. It drew buyers from the Standard Eight rather than from rivals, so there was no Light Eight for 1933, and it is regarded as the forerunner of the One-Twenty.
