Packard Eight

Automobiles

The Packard Eight was a luxury car built by Packard from 1924 to 1936, and for one last year in 1938. It was an all new platform that took the top market position from the Twin Six of 1916, and it was the senior Packard until the Super Eight and Custom Super Eight were introduced. The first car was called the Single Eight and was offered on two wheelbases. From 1928 there were a Standard Eight and a more opulent Custom Eight, a De Luxe Eight followed in 1929, and in 1930 came the Speedster, of which only 113 were built. It used a low-compression straight-eight engine, offered dash-adjustable Ride Control shock absorbers, and came in bodies from roadster to limousine. The five-passenger sedan was its best seller, and a postwar Eight returned in 1946 with the Station Sedan.
