The 1917 Nash Model 671 was the first vehicle produced to bear the name of the founder of the new company, Charles W. Nash, the former president of General Motors who had founded Nash Motors in 1916 by acquiring the Thomas B. Jeffery Company of Kenosha, Wisconsin. The first Nash engine, introduced in 1917 and designed by the Finnish-born engineer Nils Erik Wahlberg, whom Nash had persuaded to leave General Motors' Oakland Division, had overhead valves, which Nash had learned about while working for Buick. Company sales were 10,283 units in 1918, the first full year of Nash cars, and more models were added in 1919, when sales rose to 27,081.
