Mercedes-Benz W147

The Mercedes-Benz W147, called the Type 400 V, was a prototype luxury car that Daimler-Benz built in 1938. The technical director Hans Gustav Röhr had designed it but died in August 1937 before the prototypes were made. It had a long-stroke V8 engine with overhead valves and a displacement of 4003 cubic centimetres, which produced 77 kilowatts and drove the rear wheels through a four-speed gearbox with a centre shift lever. The wheelbase was 3300 millimetres, the front and rear axles both used coil springs, and the car reached 130 kilometres per hour. Six test cars were built. The related Types 400 VM and 400 VMS differed only in chassis, engine and gearbox.
