Mercedes-Benz W05

The Mercedes-Benz W 05, sold as the 14/60 PS Type 350, was an upper middle class car that Daimler-Benz built in the late 1920s. German Wikipedia calls it a further development of the W 03 and W 04 that Ferdinand Porsche had designed, whose sales had been poor. Its inline six-cylinder engine was enlarged once more, this time to 3,444 cubic centimetres with an 80 millimetre bore and a 115 millimetre stroke, and gave 60 PS, about 44 kilowatts, at 3,200 revolutions a minute, slightly more than its predecessors. The rear axle ratio was lengthened again, to 1 to 5.0 for the lowland version and 1 to 5.4 for the mountain version, which gave top speeds of 103 and 100 kilometres an hour. Nobody expected the changes to improve sales, so the company set Hans Nibel to rework the design at the same time, which produced the successor Mannheim 350, and the company then parted from Ferdinand Porsche.
