Mercedes-Benz W03

Automobiles

The Mercedes-Benz W03 was a large six-cylinder passenger car that Daimler-Benz presented at the Berlin Motor Show in October 1926, sold as the 12/55 PS and at first as the Typ 300. It was developed in haste under Technical Director Ferdinand Porsche, in parallel with the smaller W01, which never went beyond a prototype, and the two-litre W02, soon after Daimler and Benz and Cie merged into Daimler-Benz. The car was offered as a bare chassis for independent coachbuilders, with standard bodies that included a four-door Pullman limousine, and carried a side-valve six-cylinder engine of 2,968 cc. Only 205 were sold in 1926, because it was seen as comfortable but too large and heavy, and an upgraded version followed in January 1927.
