The Lagonda 16/80 is a sports touring car that Lagonda introduced in 1932 to replace its four-cylinder 2 litre model. The first part of the name referred to a fiscal horsepower rating of 16, actually 15.7, while the second number may have referred to brake horsepower, although the real output fell well short of 80 bhp, so one informed owner suggested it stood for the claimed top speed of 80 mph. The car was unusual as the only Lagonda offered with a Crossley engine, each unit being stripped down, checked and rebuilt to Lagonda's own specification and fitted with twin SU carburettors. An E.N.V preselector gearbox became an option in 1933. When new the car carried a nine year guarantee, on condition that it was returned to the factory every three years for an overhaul. Lagonda dropped the model in 1934, shortly before Alan Good rescued the firm from financial collapse, and according to the Lagonda Club 261 were made.
