The Ford Sweepstakes was a one-off racing car built by Henry Ford and his team, among them Oliver Barthel, Ed Huff, Charlie Mitchell, George Wettrick and Ed Vanderlinden, between May and July 1901 under the Henry Ford Company. It had a water-cooled flat-twin engine of about 8.8 litres mounted amidships, driving the rear axle through a two-speed gearbox and a chain. On 10 October 1901 it won the ten mile Sweepstakes race at Grosse Pointe against Alexander Winton, averaging more than 72 km/h; only three of 17 entries started. William C. Rands bought it in March 1902, Ford Motor Company bought it back in the 1930s, and two replicas were made in 2001.
