Chrysler Traveller

The Chrysler Traveller, Series C26, was the most simply equipped eight-cylinder Chrysler of the 1940 model year, built in Detroit beside the New Yorker, Saratoga and Highlander, with which it shared all its mechanical parts. Its side-valve inline eight of 5,301 cubic centimetres produced 135 brake horsepower (99 kilowatts), or 143 brake horsepower (105 kilowatts) with higher compression, and drove the rear wheels through a single-plate dry clutch and a four-speed gearbox. Only a limited choice of bodies was offered: a two-door and a four-door sedan and two coupes seating three or six. The four eight-cylinder lines together totalled 17,600 cars in 1940, and the number of Travellers among them is not known.
