BMW 319

Automobiles

The BMW 319 was a small car that BMW built at its Eisenach plant from 1935 to 1937 as a more powerful version of the 315. In two years 6,646 were made before the 320 replaced it in 1937. It used the new 1.9 litre inline six first fitted to the sports 315/1, which made that car the 319/1: 1,911 cc and 45 PS (33 kW) at 3,750 rpm, ten less than in the sports model, with the four-speed Hurth gearbox kept and a top speed of 115 km/h. The bodies were those of the smaller 315 at RM 400 more, a touring car at RM 4,500, a saloon at RM 4,150, a cabriolet saloon at RM 4,350, a four-seat cabriolet at RM 4,800 and a two-seat sports cabriolet at RM 5,150. The chassis and the cable-operated drum brakes on all four wheels followed the 315, and the sports counterpart was the roadster 319/1.
