The BMW 315 was a small six-cylinder car built by BMW at its Eisenach plant from 1934 to 1937 as the successor to the BMW 303. It was presented in March 1934, and 9,765 were made in three years before the small six-cylinder series ended in 1937. It differed from the 303 mainly in its larger engine, an inline six of 1,490 cc with two Solex carburettors that gave 34 PS (25 kW) at 4,000 rpm and a top speed of about 100 km/h. Power passed through a four-speed gearbox with synchromesh on third and fourth gears and a propeller shaft to the rear wheels, and the drum brakes on all four wheels were cable operated. Buyers had a wider choice of bodies than on the 303: a touring car, a saloon, a cabriolet saloon, a four-seat cabriolet and a two-seat sports cabriolet. The roadster BMW 315/1 was its sporting sibling.
