The Austin 30-hp was a large luxury car announced by the British manufacturer Austin at the Paris Salon in December 1912, where only the chassis was shown beside the 10 hp, the 20 hp and a 40 hp Defiance tourer. It replaced the successful but ageing 18-24 for 1914 and provided the basis for Austin's wartime armoured car. The 1913 model had several technical innovations: a torque tube enclosing the propeller shaft, articulated so the rear axle could move laterally; a subframe for the engine, clutch and gearbox resting on a rubber pad to isolate noise and vibration; and the brake drum on the propeller shaft behind the universal joint.
