Austin 25/30

Automobiles

The Austin 25-30 was the first car produced by the newly established British manufacturer Austin. In the last week of April 1906 motorists travelled to Longbridge through falling snow to see the new conventional four-cylinder chain-drive car, taxed at 32 hp, which came as the 25/30 hp at 650 pounds complete or as a cheaper 15/20 hp at 500 pounds. Only 23 cars were sold between April and October 1906, mostly 25-30s, and 147 of all models in the next twelve months. A total of 65 were made in just over a year before the 40 hp, using a bored-out and simplified 25-30 engine, replaced it in 1907. The frame was very stiff steel section with a subframe unit for engine, clutch and gearbox.
