Austin 18/24

Automobiles

The Austin 18-24 was a large 5-litre luxury car made by the British manufacturer Austin, launched in 1907 with the 25-30 engine of 5.3 litres. Despite the name its successive engines rated about 30 horsepower for tax and contemporaries thought it really a 30-40. It replaced the 15-20 in the catalogue, and the following year used the 15-20 4.4-litre engine, before the engine was enlarged to 4.8 litres. It was the first big seller for Austin, with sales of 1,566 by the end of 1913, and in 1920 The Times still called it Austin's famous 18-hp of years ago. The 6.1-litre Austin 30 hp replaced it for 1914.
