Austin 10 hp

Automobiles

The Austin 10 hp was a high-quality small car, not a cycle car, made from 1910 to 1915 by the Austin Motor Company at Longbridge near Birmingham. In all 1,336 were built, 213 with the original 1,125 cc four-cylinder engine and 1,123 with the 1,615 cc engine that replaced it in 1913, which is sometimes called the Austin 10/12 because it was taxed as a 14.3 hp car. Like the Austin 7 hp it did poorly with the small engine. In 1913 it was the cheapest Austin, at 260 pounds for a chassis with tyres, and it was renamed the 12-14 hp before midsummer 1915, though wartime limited production.
