The Nissan S-Cargo is a small retro-styled van that Nissan built from 1989 to 1991 and sold only in Japan, through its Nissan Cherry Stores. Its styling was inspired by the Citroën 2CV Fourgonnette delivery van, down to a single-spoke steering wheel, and the name was a double entendre: Small Cargo, and a sound like escargot, the French word for snail, which is a nickname of the 2CV. It was introduced at the Tokyo Motor Show in 1989 and sold at first without Nissan badging and by reservation only. Over its two-year production run 10,685 were produced, although some reports say 12,000. Born in Nissan's special project group, Pike Factory, it is one of the four Pike cars with the Figaro, Be-1 and Pao. Options included an oval portal window on each side panel and an electric canvas sunroof.
