The Triumph Stag V8 followed in 1970 as the production car, after the Saab variant of the engine in 1968. The Stag was sold from 1970 by the British Triumph Motor Company as a 2+2 sports tourer styled by Giovanni Michelotti. Installation testing of both the Triumph V8 and the Rover V8 had been carried out in May and June 1967, the conclusion being that the engine was too tall and that front structure changes would be necessary.
