Volume sales of the Triumph 2000 began in January 1964, after it had been presented to the public at the London Motor Show in October 1963. The Mark 1 was a saloon in 1964, with the estate not coming until 1965. It competed with the Rover P6 2000, which initially was offered only with a four cylinder engine, whereas the Triumph had a six cylinder engine, and it was styled by Giovanni Michelotti. Sales began in January.
