The Mitsubishi TETRA is a concept car developed by Mitsubishi Motors, shown first at the 57th Frankfurt Motor Show in 1997 as the Mitsubishi Technas and then at the 32nd Tokyo Motor Show the same year as the TETRA. The name abbreviates Thoroughbred styling, Ergonomic multi function interior, Technologically advanced sporty performance, RISE and All-round information system. It tried to combine the benefits of a sports utility vehicle with the handling of a car by lowering ground clearance and height, with a wide track and low-profile tyres. It used a 6G72 24-valve 3.0 litre DOHC V6 with gasoline direct injection and an INVECS-II five-speed automatic, and its electronically controlled full-time four-wheel drive was largely that of the Legnum VR-4 wagon, including a centre differential and Active Yaw Control, with that car's multi-link suspension, self-levelling rear and RISE safety structure. Styling details included a vertically split tailgate, centre-opening rear doors and a two-piece split hood.
