Mitsubishi SUP

Automobiles

The Mitsubishi SUP is a concept car developed by Mitsubishi Motors in 2001, first shown as a hardtop at the 35th Tokyo Motor Show that year and later as the SUP Cabriolet at the 2002 North American International Auto Show and Geneva Motor Show. SUP stands for Sports Utility Pack, and Mitsubishi said it was designed for nature lovers who enjoy hi-tech gadgets on weekdays and communing with nature at weekends. It was one of four concepts produced in the five months after Olivier Boulay became head of design in 2001, following DaimlerChrysler's purchase of a controlling interest in Mitsubishi Motors, and carried the common face seen on all of them. Radical details included a thick wraparound tubeline housing the lamps, detachable semi-transparent door panels and seatback-mounted backpacks. It had a soft HEV four-wheel-drive layout, with a 1,999 cc 4G94 gasoline direct injection straight-four driving the front wheels and two electric motors the rears.
