The Mitsubishi Pajero Junior was a mini SUV that Mitsubishi Motors built between October 1995 and March 1998 for the Japanese domestic market only. It rode on a lengthened Minica platform and was a larger sibling of the kei-class Pajero Mini, with wide fender trims and wider tyres, and because it was a small-size car under Japanese rules it paid less tax than the full Pajero but more than the Pajero Mini. A 1,094 cc engine shared with the Colt made 80 PS and gave 135 km/h, and drivers could choose rear-wheel drive or the Easy-Select 4WD with high and low ranges, which gave it better off-road ability than rivals such as the Daihatsu Terios. The ZR-I of 1995 was joined by the ZR-II in 1997 and by McTwist, Lynx and Flying Pug limited editions. Sales ended in June 1998 when the Pajero iO replaced it, and all examples were recalled in 2001 to replace the steering wheel airbag unit.
