The Isuzu Trooper is a mid-size sport utility vehicle that Isuzu built from September 1981 to September 2002 in two generations, the second (UBS) running from 1991 and refreshed in 1998. The first generation grew out of the Isuzu Faster pickup and arrived as a three-door wagon or soft top. In the United States the two-door was sold as the Trooper II to sidestep the 25 percent Chicken Tax on two-door trucks, and a five-door followed in 1983. Engines included four-cylinder petrol and diesel units and later a V6. In Japan the vehicle was the Bighorn, and partners sold it as the Acura SLX, Chevrolet Trooper, Holden Jackaroo and Monterey, Opel and Vauxhall Monterey and Honda Horizon. It competed with the Toyota Hilux Surf, Mitsubishi Pajero and Nissan Terrano.
