The Lancia Delta S4, also known by its Abarth project code SE038, was a Group B rally car that replaced and evolved from the 037. It competed in the World Rally Championship in 1985 and 1986 until the FIA banned the class. It was a silhouette car that shared almost nothing with the front-engine production Delta, with a tubular space frame, a carbon fibre composite body, all-wheel drive developed with Hewland and a mid-mounted 1,759 cc four-cylinder engine that combined a supercharger with a turbocharger, giving up to about 490 PS. Only 28 complete chassis were built, plus fewer than 100 road-going Stradale cars. Henri Toivonen won its first event, the 1985 RAC Rally, and his fatal crash on the 1986 Tour de Corse led directly to the end of Group B.
