The Jaguar XJR-8 was a Group C race car built by Jaguar for the World Sportscar Championship and the 24 Hours of Le Mans, used in the 1987 season. Racing expert Tom Walkinshaw and designer Tony Southgate made 64 changes to the XJR-6 to create it, and six cars were produced, three new and three converted from XJR-6s. The engine was the Jaguar V12 with displacement raised to 7 litres and power to 720 horsepower, and a top speed of over 220 mph was recorded on the Mulsanne Straight. It won at Silverstone, the Nurburgring and Spa-Francorchamps and Jaguar took both the drivers' title and the championship, while the best Le Mans result was fifth. It won Autosport Racing Car of the Year, raced for just that one year and led to the XJR-9.
