British Leyland Zanda

Automobiles

The British Leyland Zanda Grand Turismo was a concept car first unveiled at the British Motor Show in 1969 on the Pressed Steel stand. It was not designed as a future model but to show off the design capability of Austin Morris and the technical skill of Pressed Steel. Harris Mann, working under Roy Haynes, gave it the wedge shape that became his trademark on the later Triumph TR7, reportedly inspired by Bertone Alfa Romeo Carabo of the year before. Developed with computer aided design, claimed to be the first use of CAD in Europe, it proposed Austin Maxi mechanics. The car is non-running at the British Motor Museum at Gaydon, once lime green and now gold metallic.
