Lancia D23

Automobiles

The Lancia D23 was a racing sports car built by Lancia of Turin in 1953. After the encouraging debut of the three-litre D20 berlinetta in the spring of 1953, Lancia turned it into an open spider to save weight and gain agility, and the racing department worked day and night through May and June to build four cars, finished between 27 June and 23 July. The first two raced at Monza on 29 June 1953. The engine and transmission were identical to the D20's, the chassis was modified in its middle and partly at the rear, and a De Dion type semi-independent rear axle was fitted. The tail was reshaped in the following months.
