The Bertone Pirana, also called the Jaguar Pirana, was a one-off concept car created by the Italian coachbuilder Bertone for the 1967 London Motor Show at Earl's Court. The sleek grand tourer used the chassis and powertrain of the 4.2 litre Jaguar E-type under a unique steel semi-monocoque body with a luxurious interior. Marcello Gandini designed it, and unusually for a show car it was commissioned by The Daily Telegraph as an example of an ideal car, with Sir William Lyons agreeing to sell Bertone the engine and chassis. After London it was shown in New York and Montreal and was later converted to a 2+2 with automatic transmission. Its wooden body buck was reused for an early Lamborghini Espada prototype.
