Sunbeam-Talbot 90

Automobiles

The Sunbeam-Talbot 90 was a British family saloon built by the Rootes Group's Sunbeam-Talbot marque from 1948 to 1954, after which the same car carried on as the Sunbeam Mk III until 1957. It was launched in 1948 beside the smaller-engined Sunbeam-Talbot 80 and kept a good deal of its engineering from the pre-war Sunbeam-Talbot 2 Litre. Buyers could choose a four-door sports saloon with the marque's pillarless rear-door glass and reversed-slope tail, or a two-door drophead coupe. Its four-cylinder overhead-valve engine began at 1,944 cc and grew to 2,267 cc in 1950, and the car passed through three versions before the Talbot name was dropped. Road testers of the day praised its speed and its prettiness, and it did well in rallying, where a Sunbeam Mk III won the 1955 Monte Carlo Rally.
