Standard Pennant

Automobiles

The Standard Pennant was the up-market, tail-finned version of the Standard Ten, launched in October 1957 and offered with optional two-tone paint. Engine power was raised to 37 bhp and an overdrive gearbox was optional, with a radio, heater, leather upholstery and clutchless two-pedal control among the other extras. Built by the Standard Motor Company and also in India, where Indian-produced Pennants were branded Standard 10 and lacked boot lid trim, it was replaced together with the Ten by the Triumph Herald in 1961. The Motor magazine tested one in 1958, recording a top speed of 70.2 mph and a fuel consumption of 40.2 miles per imperial gallon, at a test car price of 728 pounds including taxes.
