Nash Rambler

Automobiles

The Nash Rambler was a compact car built by the Nash Motors division of Nash-Kelvinator at Kenosha from 1950 to 1954 and, after the Hudson merger, by American Motors. President George Mason wanted a smaller car that was still well equipped, so the first Rambler arrived in April 1950 as a fixed-profile Landau convertible with the doors and window frames kept and only the canvas top retracting, which let Nash use unibody construction. It rode a 100 inch wheelbase and used the 172.6 cubic inch L-head six of 82 horsepower. Station wagon and hardtop styles followed, and the Rambler is credited with establishing the American compact segment, with AMC reviving the name for 1958 to 1960.
