Daimler Majestic Major

Automobiles

The Daimler Majestic Major DQ450 was a large luxury saloon made by Daimler in Coventry between November 1960 and 1968, fitted with a 4,561 cc V8 engine as a much more powerful companion to the Majestic. A prototype was shown at the London Motor Show on 20 October 1959 but production did not start until November 1960. Edward Turner's engine produced a conservatively rated 220 bhp and let the car reach 120 mph, faster than a Jaguar Mark X up to 80 mph, and Motor Sport described it as having sports car performance. It shared the Majestic's chassis and bodyshell but had a longer boot, a D motif on the bonnet, twin exhausts and six more inches of length. A long limousine version, the DR450, was made from 1961.
