The Rover 20 was announced in June 1907 as a new medium sized car, a production version of the car that won the Isle of Man Tourist Trophy race in 1906. Its chassis was suspended from the front axle at one point by a pivoted transverse leaf spring, and the whole car rested on just three points. Two Autoloc levers moved over the top of the steering wheel to operate the throttle and the ignition. The engine had a slightly larger bore than the Rover 16 on which it was based.
