1911 Rover 20

Automobiles

Road tests as late as 1911 noted how Rover cars lacked accelerator pedals, since the throttle and ignition on the Rover 20 were controlled by levers over the steering wheel rather than by a pedal. The engine braking system was operated by a pedal, and the chassis was built up from steel flitch plates over ash to give the necessary strength with flexibility. The 1911 car had Autoloc levers rather than pedals for the engine controls.
