In 1908 the capacity of the single cylinder engine of the Rover 6 was increased from 780 to 812 cubic centimeters when the bore was widened from 95 to 97 millimeters, to bring the dimensions into line with Rover's new range of four cylinder cars. The car had been on sale since 1905 as a small two seater, with a three speed gearbox and a clutch that ran in oil. One lever below the steering wheel controlled both the throttle and the ignition timing.
