The SD1 was also produced under licence in Chennai, India, as the Standard 2000 from 1985 to 1988. In 1985 the SD1 was in its tenth year in Britain, with the facelifted Series 2 line built at Cowley, a product of the Austin Rover division after BL was reorganised, and soon to be replaced by the Rover 800 series. It was the second to last year of production in Britain. The Standard 2000 was a version made in India.
