The Rover 75 went on sale on 17 June 1999, having been extensively tested by the motoring press, with deliveries commencing in February 1999. Initial sales failed to match the BMW 3 Series and Audi A4 in the British car sales charts during 1999. Rover 75s were manufactured by the Rover Group at Cowley, Oxfordshire, for one year, and a diesel engine was provided through BMW Group channels. It was the first full year of sale.
