The 600 Series was launched on 19 April 1993, replacing the Montego saloon in the Rover range, and it went on sale two months before the new Honda Accord on which it was based. It had been unveiled to the motoring press towards the end of 1992. Unlike the Montego, there was never an estate version of the 600 Series, with no direct replacement for the Montego estate when it was discontinued at the end of 1994.
