The Silver Shadow was introduced in 1965 as the smaller, unibody replacement for the Silver Cloud, in a design by John Polwhele Blatchley. It was originally to be called the Silver Mist, but the name was changed at the last minute because mist means manure in German. It had disc brakes, independent rear suspension and a hydropneumatic suspension licensed from Citroen, with a V8 of 6.2 liters and then 6.75 liters. Its model years run from 1965 to 1976.
