The Silver Shadow II was the model's name from 1977, in recognition of several major changes, most notably rack and pinion steering and modifications to the front suspension that improved handling markedly. The bumpers were changed from chrome to alloy and rubber starting with the late 1976 cars, as energy absorbing bumpers already used in the United States since 1974. It was built until 1980, when the Silver Spirit replaced it. Its model years run from 1977 to 1980.
