In 2004 Rolls-Royce was selling twice as many cars as its closest rival Maybach. The Phantom was then the only car produced by Rolls-Royce, a flagship that was less exclusive than all previous Phantoms, none of which surpassed 600 per year. It was hand assembled at the Goodwood plant, where only three robots paint the body and the coach lines, exactly 3 mm wide, are done by hand. It was built at the Goodwood plant in West Sussex.
